Generating Business Ideas

This seminar is for potential entrepreneurs who want to explore different ideas for business start up. This is an interactive workshop where ideas are generated by looking at market opportunities and participants current skills. The ideas are filtered to determine best business opportunity and then facilitator discusses available resources within the region or community.

Planning for Small Business Success

In this seminar participants will be learning how to prepare a business plan and find out what bankers look for in a successful business loan application. They will gain an appreciation of the importance of a business plan and find out where to get more information to help their idea develop. The basic business plan elements will be discussed.

Marketing for Small Business

Participants will learn how to examine their target markets. They will also discuss the importance of knowing their customer and who has influence over their purchase decision. Concentration will be placed on prompting their businesses and they will learn about the seven basic elements of a promotional plan.

Understanding Financial Statements

"Taking the mystery out of the numbers." Understand how to read what your financial statements are saying and where the numbers come from.

Bookkeeping from a Shoe box

The purpose of this workshop is to introduce the participants to the process of bookkeeping and uses a hands-on approach to learning. The bookkeeping process is explained and the terms used in bookkeeping become familiar. Participants in this workshop will spend their time on completing one month of manual bookkeeping for a retail business. This is done to ensure the participant is able to practice the bookkeeping functions. Which in turn they will be able to take the skills learned and maintain a set of books for a small business. This workshop is approximately 32 hours in length
